Our Story, a History of Innovation

Founded in 1988 as Dublin BIC (Dublin Business Innovation Centre), now trading as Furthr has been a cornerstone in Ireland’s entrepreneurial ecosystem for over 36 years. Established during a period of significant economic hardship-with net outward migration reaching 80,000 people and unemployment exceeding 16% in 1988/89 Dublin BIC was launched with backing from EBAN (European Business Angels Network), Dublin Chamber of Commerce, and the private sector.

From the beginning, Furthr has been deeply committed to working alongside both private sector and state entities to deliver vital supports for emerging businesses. Over the years, it has adapted and expanded its services in line with Ireland's evolving entrepreneurial landscape. This evolution reflects the transformation of Ireland itself from a challenging environment for business to a hub of innovation and opportunity.

Today, rebranded as Furthr, the organisation continues to honour its legacy and commitment of empowering founders through innovative programmes, strategic funding support, and an extensive network, helping shape Ireland’s modern economy and supporting a new generation of ambitious entrepreneurs.

Furthr are proud to have a number of firsts on the Island of Ireland that have supported startups since 1988.
